UNITED APPEALS TO MOURINHO

Jose Mourinho would jump at the chance of managing Manchester United should the Old Trafford hierarchy decide he is the man to replace Sir Alex Ferguson.
At 67, Ferguson knows he cannot continue indefinitely, even though he is presently fit and healthy and has no intention of giving up a job he has held for almost 23 years.
United chief executive David Gill knows finding a suitable alternative will be the single most difficult task he will face given the incredible success Ferguson has enjoyed with the Red Devils.
Mourinho's name has been mentioned fairly frequently since his exit from Chelsea.
The Portuguese coach certainly has the charisma required to take on one of football's biggest jobs and is unlikely to be overwhelmed by the task of replacing the most successful British manager of all time.
And, while he insists he remains totally focused on trying to end Inter Milan's 54-year European Cup drought, he admitted the lure of returning to England with the current Premier League champions would probably be irresistible.
"I would consider going to Manchester United but United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson," he told the Daily Mirror. "If they do, then of course.
"I like England, where the fans are very passionate and make the game a beautiful occasion with such an incredible atmosphere."
Ironically, Mourinho's statement comes just after John Terry committed his future to the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Had Mourinho still been with Chelsea, it is unlikely Terry would have needed assurances from Roman Abramovich about the future direction of the London outfit before he finally said no to Manchester City.
And, aside from backroom unrest, it has not escaped Mourinho's notice that since his controversial exit two years ago, Chelsea are now onto their fourth manager and have failed to recapture the title, while he - having guided Chelsea to back-to-back championships - has now won Serie A as well with Inter.
"I had many conversations before Chelsea and I decided on a divorce," he said. "It was difficult for me because we loved each other but the relationship went in one direction and it was best for everyone.
"Since I left I became champion again but they have not been champions again. I keep on winning and they don't."

Arsenal Captain Fabregas: Rosicky Is A Consummate Professional

The chipper Spaniard has lauded the Czech Republic star's gradual return to full fitness।

Crocked Czech Republic attacker Tomas Rosicky has been slowly nursed back to full fitness following a host of complex hamstring aggravations, and Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has admitted he is relishing seeing the midfielder back in action in the red-and-white strip of the north London clique.Rosicky has not featured for the Gunners since January 2008, and is expected to mark his comeback during Autumn, and Fabregas believes this will only benefit the club as he believes Rosicky to be a consummate professional, and one of the most techically-blessed footballers in the game."I have spent a lot of time with him and I know how he feels," Fabregas explained to the club's official website.
"I know what he wants and I have never seen a guy being so committed, so professional and never giving up. If this happened to me I probably wouldn't want to talk to anyone, I would be always down and angry. But he's unbelievable and when we see that he will be back next season, he will be strong and hopefully he can help us improve a lot.
"He's the type of player you enjoy playing alongside and as a guy he's amazing. He didn't deserve his injury but I am sure he will come back stronger. I wish him all the best because everyone here at Arsenal loves him a lot."
He continued, "I feel sorry for him but I don't need to say that to him, he's my best friend in the team and one of my best friends in football and my life.
"He can bring many, many things to the team. He's a guy with a lot of experience, he has won things, he knows how to compete, he's very humble and he works for the team.
"Technically he is one of the best in the world and physically I am sure he will be really strong because he's been working really hard. I am happy because soon he is going to be back and I can't wait to see him playing again."
Arsenal enjoyed some of their best free-flowing and one-touch football when Rosicky and Fabregas were playing together, along with AC Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini, and Barcelona outcast Aliaksandr Hleb.

Beckenbauer: Franck Ribery Does Not Care About Bayern Munich

The Bayern legend is not impressed with the club's star inability to stay loyal।

Franz Beckenbauer has launched a scathing attack on Franck Ribery by accusing the French international of not caring at all about Bayern Munich after a summer of being perpetually linked with a move away from the club. The Bavarian club legend has been infuriated with what he sees as a complete lack of loyalty by the forward, and accused him of only moving to the Allianz Arena to make his name.Ribery has made it clear that he would like to join the Spanish giants and only Bayern's blocking of some huge bids from other clubs too prevented him leaving. That has angered Beckenbauer and he accused the winger of showing a lack of respect and commitment to the Bundesliga giants."He only came to Bayern to make his name," Bild quote him as saying. "He is a Frenchman and does not give a damn about Bayern."Talk of being able to rescind his contract next summer in order to move for a reduced compensation fee has also outraged Beckenbauer."Why agree to sign a four-year contract if you only want to stay for three," he fumed.Ribery has been linked with Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, but has now been told he must stay with Bayern.

Arsenal Plotting Swoop For Chelsea's Salomon Kalou

The Gunners' new striker could come from just across टाऊन.

Arsene Wenger is seeking to bring Salomon Kalou across London to join Arsenal. Having lost Emmanuel Adebayor, the Ashburton Grove outfit are in the market for a striker, but will not pay over the odds for anyone. However, according to the News of the World, the Gunners believe they can snare Kalou for a price of around £7 million. The Ivorian's contract expires next summer, so Chelsea might be keen to cash in on him now. Carlo Ancelotti has previously stated that he wants Kalou to remain at Stamford Bridge, but the fact that he has not yet been offered a new contract suggests that all offers will be considered. He currently earns £45,000 per week, and Arsenal are ready to improve that to around £70,000. A 'Chelsea insider' was quoted as saying, "Salomon is flattered by Arsenal's interest, but at the moment he is fully committed to Chelsea."

Freddie Ljungberg: Everton Can Breach The Big Four

The former Arsenal attacker believes that the Toffees can break into the big-time this season

Freddie Ljungberg will play against Everton as a part of Major League Soccer's All-Star team, and he believes that the Blues can break the barrier of the 'big four'. He also thinks that Aston Villa and Manchester City are going to challenge for a Champions League spot during the forthcoming season."Last season, you had Villa challenging for the top spots, and Man City have so much money," Ljungberg said in an interview with EvertonTV."But Everton are always up there too, so it's going to be tight and it's good for the game. Manchester United have lost two good players and haven't really replaced them, so that could make it tighter at the top.The former Sweden captain then went on to praise a few Toffees who had a lasting impression on him during his nine-year stint in the Premier League."Yakubu probably saved my neck once, I fell over him when challenging for a header but he held me like a baby to stop me falling. We have a bit of a special relationship,” he recalled."I've played against Phil Neville a few times, but he was a Manchester United player, so I'm not supposed to be too nice to them," he joked. "But he's done really well, he leads the team and plays hard."Ljungberg will line-up in the MLS All-Star team to face Everton on Thursday.

Arsenal have the quality to win it

ARSENAL idol Thierry Henry insists the Gunners can still win the Premier League next season - despite another Emirates exodus.
But the most prolific striker in the club's history admits he is talking with his heart rather than his head when he urges disgruntled supporters to keep the faith.
It is two years since the man voted the greatest Arsenal player of all time left the club for Barcelona.
But the pain he feels at their failure to win a trophy since 2005 remains as intense as ever.
Now Henry is praying manager Arsene Wenger can end that long wait despite battling just to hang on to his top stars.
Arsenal have already lost striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City for £25million and defender Kolo Toure is set to follow him to Eastlands any day now.
But Henry insisted: "I know the way Arsene Wenger thinks and he will not go into the new season with ambitions to finish in the top four again.
"His only target will be to win the Premier League.
"And despite all that has happened at Arsenal this year, I still believe they have enough quality to do that. It is difficult for me to talk about Arsenal. Whenever I do, it is always with my heart, not my head.
"They are going to miss Adebayor for sure. He is a good player and he scored some important goals for the team.
"So it is going to be a difficult task for Arsenal this time and it is vital that everyone keeps the faith.
"The reason I say that is because the boss still has great faith in his players and if there is one man who Arsenal can trust to do the right thing, it's Arsene Wenger.
"He is the man who has put Arsenal on to the European map. Nobody else could have achieved what he has done there.
"The fans should remember that and give him more credit। Some people gave him a hard time last season and he didn't deserve that.
"I know how those supporters feel. Like them, I am Arsenal through and through and we all suffer when the team doesn't win anything.
"Everyone wants immediate success and after four seasons without a trophy, Arsenal supporters have become impatient.
"All I can say to them right now is to have faith in Arsene and know that the first trophy in five years will be more enjoyable than ever."
Henry, 31, scored a club-record 226 goals in 370 games for Arsenal, winning the Premier League twice and FA Cup three times.
He was voted Footballer of the Year three times and the PFA's Player of the Year twice as well as finishing top scorer in the Premier League in four of his eight seasons at Arsenal.
But things have gone steadily downhill for Arsenal since Henry left for Barcelona in a £16m deal in 2007.
There has been an alarming trickle of top talent moving away from The Emirates since then.
Henry said: "It is more difficult to achieve success without money, but it's not impossible with the right attitude.
"Just look at Barcelona. We won the treble this year and proved you can succeed by developing your own players and blending them with one or two expensive signings.
"Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, Puyol, Pique and Valdes all came through the system at Barcelona.
"Arsenal are trying to do the same thing and are very close to achieving their ambitions.
"Yes, they are still a very young team. But they are not inexperienced.
"They have been playing together for quite a while and are capable of anything.
"They played Manchester United off the park in the Premier League at The Emirates last season but it all went wrong when they met again in the Champions League.
"But at least they have shown what they can do. With the players they already have at the club, I can still see them winning the league."
Yet Henry admitted it will be tougher than ever now Manchester City have burst on to the scene in an unprecedented transfer blitz funded by their billionaire Arab owners.
Henry added: "Manchester City fans are buzzing right now and why not? Surely they are allowed to be happy.
"It is their turn and nobody can be bitter about that or resent them for their good fortune.
"Let's just see what they can do."
Henry's biggest concern, though, is recovering from the knee injury which hampered him during last season's Champions League final and help Barca blunt the challenge of Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired Real Madrid.
Henry confessed: "I pushed myself so hard to play in the Champ-ions League final.
"The doctors told me I should rest for two months after the initial injury but I was back after two weeks.
"I was virtually playing on one leg against Manchester United in the final but was so desperate just to be a part of the team.
"Now I am being a bit more cautious. I'm working hard in training and will go with the team on the tour of the United States, but I am not kicking a ball yet.
"Hopefully I will be OK for the start of the season but the most important thing is to make sure the knee is fully recovered."

ARSENAL SECURE BIG WIN IN HUNGARY

Eduardo impressed on his first appearance of Arsenal's pre-season campaign as he bagged a brace to help the Gunners beat Hungarian outfit Szombathely 5-0.
Nicklas Bendtner, who has recently been linked with a move to AC Milan, also struck a double and he opened the scoring as he headed home Armand Traore's cross from the left flank.
Eduardo grabbed the next two goals and Bendtner beat Szombathely goalkeeper Daniel Rozsa with a low shot just before the break to make the score 4-0 to Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger made eight changes at the interval with Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin both being introduced to give the home side more to worry about.
It was van Persie who bagged the final goal of the game as he fired home a penalty after Bendtner had been bundled to the ground by Rozsa in the box. The Dutchman thought he had added a sixth with a header, but it was ruled out.
David Nugent grabbed a hat-trick as Portsmouth secured a 6-1 success at non-league Eastleigh.
Younes Kaboul, Paris Cowan-Hall and Danijel Subotic were also on target for Paul Hart's side as they bagged a big victory at the Silverlake Stadium. Brett Williams scored for the hosts.
Derby boss Nigel Clough saw a young Rams side claim a narrow 3-2 success away to Matlock Town with Alex Prijovic finding the net 10 minutes from time.
Arnaud Mendy and Greg Mills were the other men on target for the visitors, with the home side twice restoring parity at the Causeway Stadium before Prijovic's winner.
Leeds had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Bradford Park Avenue as the UniBond League side hit back from 2-0 and 3-1 down.
Enoch Showunmi and Tom Elliott put the Whites in control early on, only for Chris Hall to pull one back shortly before the break at Horsfall Stadium.
Alan Sheehan restored Leeds' two-goal advantage from the penalty spot after Liam Darville was fouled, but further goals from Mark Bett and Hall secured a draw for the hosts.
Dagenham left it late to claim a 2-1 success away to Braintree with Tommy Tejan-Sie finding the back of the net in the 89th minute.
Wesley Thomas' shot from the edge of the box in the 14th minute put John Still's men ahead, only for their hosts to level with time running out.

Stoke's Olofinjana set for Monaco

Olofinjana joined Stoke from Wolves for £3m in the summer of 2008
Seyi Olofinjana looks set to leave Stoke City after the Potters agreed a fee of around £2।5m with Monaco for the Nigeria international midfielder.

The 29-year-old joined Stoke from Wolves in July 2008, but made just 14 starts in the Premier League.
Olofinjana now has to agree personal terms with the French league side.
He agreed to join Monaco in 2004 whilst playing in Norway, but the move was cancelled after a medical revealed he suffered from a heart defect.
Olofinjana scored twice in his time at the Britannia Stadium, in home matches against Everton and Arsenal.
He was a regular in the first team during the first half of the season, but played just 19 minutes after the turn of the year.
The Nigerian had previously enjoyed a successful four-year spell with Wolves in the Championship, but left Molineux to seek Premier League football.

Beckham clashes with another fan

England midfielder David Beckham was involved in another confrontation with a fan during Los Angeles Galaxy's match on Saturday।

Beckham exchanged words with a man in an England shirt during the Galaxy's 1-1 draw with the Kansas City Wizards.
The 34-year-old, who was fined after a clash with a fan last week, claimed the spectator insulted his wife Victoria.
"He shouldn't actually be wearing that shirt because what he was saying about my wife was a disgrace," he said.
The former England captain was fined $1,000 (£600) by Major League Soccer last Friday following a confrontation with fans during a recent friendly against AC Milan.
Beckham, who missed part of the Major League Soccer season earlier this year when he joined the Italian giants on loan, was booed by a section of the home crowd during the game.
At half-time, he approached one group of fans and appeared to challenge them to meet him on the pitch.
Security staff intervened, and police arrested a fan who left the stands.
Beckham joined Milan on loan because he was keen to satisfy England boss Fabio Capello's demand that he play at the highest level to remain in contention for international selection.
He is England's most capped outfield player, with 112 appearances, and is keen to play on until the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Diego Maradona: It's Nice To Be Maradona

'El Pibe de Oro' spoke about his national team experiences thus far।

Diego Maradona, the coach of the Argentine national team, commented on several issues pertaining to his experiences during an exclusive two-hour interview with Ole.Since being appointed the new boss of Los Albicelestes Maradona has received heavy criticism, especially after the embarrassing 6-1 defeat at the hands of Bolivia. When asked whether it was easier to solely dedicate himself to playing football Maradona had no doubts about his answer."It was much easier being a player: I only thought about getting the ball and enjoying myself. Now I have to take control of around twenty-five players. There are things that complicate me. "I'll tell you one thing, guys: the other day there was a free kick in a training session and Messi took it. I moved to the side, the ball rebounded off the wall and it came to me...I take it on my left foot, it was so nice. The player came out of me. I said: I'll nail it. Someone would have noticed because my eyes opened."It is clear that Maradona has yet to adapt himself to being a coach, and he revealed his strengths and weaknesses to the press."I think the best I can give the players is all of my experience and I base myself on this. I am sure that if they see me well they will be well. That is my strength. It is a new experience for me. Some experiences have gone well and others not too well, but I always look at the players in the face. That is what I was taught by Flaco Menotti, Bilardo, Coco Basile and Miguel Angel Lopez."He continued: "What hurts me is that I couldn't count with Oscar Ruggeri by my side. He has more experience and maybe he could have given me a hand. Maybe we could have done a better job together. With Mancu and Lemme I get along really well and we do a good job. And of course the help of Bilardo. Everything I do I ask Bilardo first."Los Albicelestes have struggled a great deal in the World Cup qualifiers, and Maradona explained how he deals with the anxiety."Talking to the players. Knowing how Masche is. I speak a lot to Masche, I also speak a lot to Heinze. But it is hard to find Messi. It is easier to talk to Obama than to Lio [he joked]. But sometimes I find him. I speak to Kun, with Maxi. I kill the anxiety watching videos. I watch the matches we have played."Maradona also responded to declarations made by Brazil captain Lucio, who said he wants to eliminate Argentina from the World Cup when they clash in a decisive qualifier in September."He said it when he brought the Confederations Cup to Lula. We'll see if they can. We have four difficult matches left, but we have our minds set on the Brazilians. Brazil are the team we want to bring down."If Argentina don't claim maximum points against their arch-rivals they could well miss out on qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Official: Peter Crouch Signs For Tottenham Hotspur

The lofty striker has completed his move to White Hart Lane।

Portsmouth have confirmed on their official website that Peter Crouch has made the switch to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee estimated around the £9 million mark.Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had spent time with the towering frontman during his spell as manager at Fratton Park and recently rekindled his interest in the player, despite an admission that Crouch might be too expensive. However, a deal was agreed by the two clubs - both to suit Harry Redknapp's need for a striker and to ease Pompey's scheduled debt repayments."We are sorry to see Peter go both as a player and a person and would like to thank him for playing a key role in keeping the club in the Premier League last season," a official Portsmouth statement reads."His sale was necessitated by the club’s commitment to repay scheduled debts while we are in a transitional period of completing the takeover."We will now be looking to add fresh faces to the first-team squad as soon as possible."It is expected now that, with the announcement of Spurs' acquisition of Crouch, the Premier League side will call off their hunt for Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Ibrahimovic's Barcelona Price Confirmed

The Catalan club have confirmed the figure involved in the transfer of the Swedish ace to the Camp Nou।

Barcelona's financial vice-president, Joan Boix, has revealed that any figure for Samuel Eto'o above the €4.5 million mark would have generated income for Catalan club.Boix, who noted that Barcelona valued the Cameroonian striker at €20 million, revealed that the main difference between Ibrahimovic and Eto'o is the length of their respective contracts with Inter and Barcelona."Eto'o had one year on his contract and 'Ibra' had five," he told the Spanish press at Ibrahimovic's press conference. "Qualitatively, we can say that they are alike, but Eto'o, in a year, would cost nothing."For that I think we valued Eto'o above what he was worth."The financial vice-president said that Barcelona will pay Inter Milan €43.25 million for Ibrahimovic, a transfer the Spanish club value at €66 million.Boix confirmed that Aliaksandr Hleb will join Inter Milan on loan and that Barcelona will pay 70 per cent of the Belarusian's wages.Meanwhile, a medical examination underwent by Ibrahimovic at Barcelona revealed the player has a broken hand, an injury suffered in a friendly against Chelsea. However, it will not put the deal in jeopardy.Barcelona doctor Ricard Pruna says that the club are "studying" the best way for the Sweden international to recover so that he can "compete as soon as possible."

Mexico Claims Gold Cup With Stunning Five Goals In Second Half

It seemed like a close match for over a half, as Mexico and the U।S. battled to a scoreless draw. But in the second half, Carlos Vela entered the match, Mexico turned on the jets and the U.S. team was left in the dust.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ.--It was a festive atmosphere in New Jersey as a mostly Mexican crowd numbering 79,156 packed it in on a balmy Sunday afternoon, celebrating as Mexico defeated their regional rivals, the United States, by five goals to claim the Gold Cup title.First HalfThe much anticipated final gave the Mexicans another chance to try and get a win on American soil, and they did not disappoint their fans. The United States came out in a similar line-up to the one that got them through the earlier knock-out rounds, with only Chad Marshall in for the concussed Jimmy Conrad.Mexico put out an attacking line-up with Giovani Dos Santos, Miguel Sabah, and Alberto Medina leading the three-man forward line. The game opened with a controlled pace as Mexico attempted to impose its style on the game. The Mexican faithful responded by chanting ole’s within the first twenty seconds. The first real chance fell to Mexico in the 7th minute as Sabah danced around Chad Marshall and fired a low pass through the six, but Medina could not get on the end. The Americans came close again in the 14th, when Stuart Holden’s corner was left bouncing in the box, but Brian Ching could not connect cleanly and Mexico cleared. Robbie Rogers made his presence felt in the 28th minute as he broke past his defender and cut inside. He turned down the opportunity to play in his forwards and instead opted for the onrushing Holden, but he couldn’t keep his shot on frame as he missed wide right of Ochoa’s net.As the game wore on, it became clear that the Mexicans were content to allow the Americans to attack in possession with the Mexican forwards waiting to counter-attack. A tactic that would pay off in the second half, however, they failed to click early on with several promising plays falling apart on the last pass. The American’s did not fare much better with their finishing. Beckerman shanked two shots from the top of the box well wide. On either side of Beckerman was Rogers’ low percentage shot on a break-away, which sailed high into the stands. In the 44th, Giovani Dos Santos tracked down a loose ball and opened up the American defense with a pass leading Medina. However, Clarence Goodson came across confidently and shut down Medina twice. A minute later they were back at it. Giovani created space for Medina on the left again, but his shot rolled wide of the far post.Second HalfThe second half opened with a much more frenetic pace than the first. In an obvious move for Javier Aguirre, the largely ineffective Alberto Medina was replaced by Carlos Vela at the half.Holden and Rogers combined again to create the first goal scoring opportunity of the second half. Holden’s cross floated over the head of Jose Antonio Castro, where Rogers took it down cleanly, but couldn’t keep his half-volley down. This was closely followed by a long ball seeking out Davy Arnaud. Arnaud rushed his shot and it was easily handled by Ochoa. It would be all Mexico for the last forty minutesThe new forward line of Giovani, Vela and Sabah combined again to break the game open in the 55th minute. Giovani received the ball near the penalty mark, backing down Jay Heaps. The two tumbled over and the referee wasted no time pointing to the spot. Captain Gerardo Torrado stepped up confidently and pounded the ball high to the right past Perkins. The Mexicans took full advantage of the game opening up as they created three more chances quickly after the goal. First, Israel Castro, then Sabah, and finally Giovani found themselves clear in on goal saw their efforts saved by Troy Perkins. Finally, in the 62nd minute, Giovani’s creative play paid off. Vela broke free down the left, cut back around Goodson, who deflected the ball to Sabah, whose shot was saved by Perkins right into the path of Giovani for a tap-in.Bob Bradley responded by bringing in Kenny Cooper and Santino Quaranta for Davy Arnaud and Logan Pause, respectively, shifting Holden to the middle. Aguirre pulled his team back into a 4-5-1 with Sabah as the lone striker, but that did not stop Giovani from creating more goals. In the 67th minute, Giovani drove at the American center backs and flicked the ball between them to an onrushing Carlos Vela, who coolly chipped the ball over Perkins. With the Americans stretching to get back into the game Mexico was finding more and more space behind the American defense. Giovani ran into space down the right all the way to the box, where he was upended by Rogers, but the referee took pity on the Americans and declined to award the Mexicans a second penalty. The Mexicans combined beautifully one more time in the 79the minute, as Jose Antonio Castro got forward from defense and onto the end of a nice pass splitting the American defense. He touched the ball past the onrushing Perkins for the fourth goal.Jay Heaps brought his day to an early end in the 88th minute, picking up his second yellow trying to bring a ball down and instead catching Carlos Vela cleats up in the thigh. His first yellow came in the first half for taking down Medina to break up a counter-attack.As if four goals were not enough, the Mexicans knocked in the fifth and final goal in the 90th minute. Giovani received a ball over the top after settling into the space left vacant by the departed Jay Heaps. He played the ball into substitute Guillermo Franco, who took a touch at the top of the box and fired the ball into Perkins’ near post.

Arsenal’s Clichy Clarifies Criticism Of Adebayor's Manchester City Move

The French full-back has moved to respond to the weekend report that implied he believed Adebayor left for City for the money।

Emmanuel Adebayor's desire to sign for Manchester City was not made with money solely in mind, according to Arsenal defender Gael Clichy, who has moved to clarify a story that arose in the English media last weekend which suggested the contrary.“I felt really bad about this,” Clichy informed the club's official website. “I am not a player who would talk like this; say a name and talk this way about a friend. I asked the newspaper not to mention any names and unfortunately they did.“If you read the article you will see that I am not saying any names – 'Ade' or anyone else. That is not the way to do it. If I need to say something I will go out and say it myself.“Saying big names in a big article like this when I did not say anything, I think it is wrong. I just wanted to clarify this.“Only Ade knows why he went and we have to live with this. He was a good player for us but now he is gone and I don’t want to talk about him anymore.
"But good luck to him and I will see him on the pitch later this season.”

Manchester City Aren't Big Enough For Kolo Toure - Barcelona's Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure has poured cold water over re-emerging rumours that his brother, Arsenal's Kolo Toure, will be joining Manchester City.
“The most important thing for my brother is that he can play with a big team,” he told the London Evening Standard. “Arsenal play great football and City are not there yet.”"They have a lot of money and are ready to buy everyone but it is difficult for them because the kind of players they want are already at big clubs and some people don’t want to take a step down."
“I think he is happy there because I have spoken to him and he says he likes the way Arsenal play football and he gets on with everyone there. He may have had one or two problems there but I think he will stay.”
Speaking about his own future, the Barcelona midfielder said, “A move one day to England could happen and I would like to play with my brother but I am very happy at Barcelona.”
“This is a great club who are winning trophies and I want to stay here. Today I play for Barcelona but tomorrow who knows?
"England has a great league and my brother is here but for now I am at the right club for me.”

Fiorentina Confirm Interest In Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue

Fiorentina have confirmed their interest in Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Eboue, but they could find it hard to land him.Viola president Andrea Della Valle has revealed the club are keen on the Ivorian international following the sale of Felipe Melo to Juventus. Eboue can play in defence as well as in the midfield."Eboue is an excellent player, but it will not be easy to sign him," Della Valle told the press."These are our objectives and we will follow them. We are making big efforts, but we are keeping in mind the limits we have."Reports in Italy suggest the Viola may bid €10 million for the Gunners man and sign him on a five-year deal.Earlier, the player's agent Pascal Boisseau, claimed Spanish teams were after his client.“It’s not just Fiorentina after him, but there are also Spanish teams." Boisseau told Fiorentina.it

John Obi Mikel Will Be The Playmaker For Chelsea - Carlo Ancelotti

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti feels that this season could be the campaign where midfielder Jon Obi Mikel steps forward and shows his qualities as a creative midfielder.
“I have a lot of trust in Mikel,” he told The Daily Mail. “I think he can be the playmaker of this team. He is a young player, but has great quality, both technical and tactical.
"For the present and for the future he is a very important player for us. We are very happy he has signed a new contract and I hope that he stays at Chelsea for a lot of years.
“I would like that he puts in his great quality for the team.”
Mikel was clearly pleased by his manager's praise, saying “It is a great honour that he sees something in me. He says I am a player with great qualities, but thinks I can be even better.”
“It is going to take a bit of time, but I am going to work very close with him to make it happen.”
"He likes the fact I am strong and can play with the ball, but says that I still need to add more things to my game — if I do that then he thinks I’m going to be fantastic.”
The Nigerian believes Ancelotti will finally bring a Champions League to Stamford Bridge, saying, “We have come close so many times and I think that is why the club have brought him here, to take us to that final step.”
"The way he has come in and the ideas he has as to how to set the team up, I think we can win everything."

MARADONA 'READY FOR POMPEY'

MARADONA 'READY FOR POMPEY'

Diego Maradona's lawyer has sensationally claimed the Argentina boss is ready to quit his job with the national side to join Portsmouth as a "global ambassador".

Pompey's new owner Sulaiman Al Fahim, who this week completed his £60million takeover, wants the Argentine to help attract world superstars to the South Coast.

Al Fahim recently announced plans to open a Maradona Sports Cafe in the UAE and is also a close friend of Maradona's cousin Remigio, with both men working for the UN as goodwill ambassadors.

Maradona's lawyer Angel Oscar Moyano claims his client has players lined up to join Al Fahim's Fratton Park revolution and that he is ready to quit the Argentina post he only accepted last October.

"He has got top players ready and he is even ready to leave the Argentine national team," Moyano told Arabian Business.

"He wants to build a strong team for which he offers his mediation for signing players of top level, who with the support of Diego Maradona, will be ready to come to Portsmouth."

Al Fahim is a fan of the 48-year-old, stating his presence alone would go a long way to helping transform Portsmouth.

"I do not know if Maradona is a good coach," he conceded. "What I think is that he should be president of a club and have the right to buy and choose players.

"At Napoli he started from scratch and built a club. He has the power to transform football teams."

FERGIE HAS CASH TO SPEND - GLAZERS

FERGIE HAS CASH TO SPEND - GLAZERS

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has upwards of £60million to spend on new players this summer, according to a spokesman for the Glazer family.

Fans have been unhappy the Red Devils have been relatively quiet in the transfer market despite the £80million exit of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez's decision not to stay beyond his two-year loan.

Old Trafford does have new faces in the shape of Antonio Valencia, Gabriel Obertan and Michael Owen, although the trio are believed to have cost around £22million with the latter a free transfer.

Ferguson has claimed that there will be no more new signings this summer, but that is not because there are no funds available for him to invest.

Although Glazer family spokesman Tehsin Nayani has conceded that United cough up interest payments of £43.3million a year to service the £750m loan used to buy the club, he insists their financial position remains healthy.

"We do have debt service and carry a significant amount of debt," confirmed Nayani.

"But our interest payments are around £43.3million a year while our operating profit was £80million topped by an extra £25m from transfer profits.

"So we are talking about a net amount of about £60m. That's cash that can be reinvested in the squad, doing up the toilets or new carpets.

"The point is there is money coming into United. One thing that is certain, because of globalisation and the growing middle classes in India and the Far East, the appeal of football is set to grow. We are part of that story."

United have been criticised over their failure to make a big summer signing while neighbours rivals Manchester City have been splashing the cash with a host of expensive new arrivals.

Nayani claims Ferguson is selective regarding his transfer policy and that he will not pay over-the-odds or fund excessive salaries.

"The truth is a lot more prosaic than that," Nayani continued.

"The delay is because the manager has not been able to locate the players that he believes fit into the Manchester United mindset, ones that are motivated to play for United.

"You don't want mercenaries, to pay over the odds for players not willing to give their all for the club."

AGENT: ETO'O CLOSE TO INTER MOVE

AGENT: ETO'O CLOSE TO INTER MOVE

Samuel Eto'o's agent is confident the Barcelona striker will wrap up his move to Inter Milan sooner rather than later.

Inter are negotiating with Eto'o and his agent with a view to bringing him to the San Siro in a swap deal which would see Zlatan Ibrahimovic move the opposite way. The Serie A club will also receive 45 million euros and Alexander Hleb on a season-long loan.

And Josep Maria Mesalles believes the deal could be finalised by the end of the day.

"We still have to work a lot," he told reporters. "But I am optimistic, the agreement is close.

"Eto'o wants to come to Inter and he is very happy to come to Inter. We have taken a lot of steps forward."

Ibrahimovic's agent insists his client will not finalise his move to the Nou Camp on Thursday.

"We're working but today certainly there won't be any signing," Mino Raiola told Calciomercato.it.

Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic's injury is not as serious as first feared.

He was injured during the friendly defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday night butit has been confirmed he has only severely sprained his right wrist.
